Investment Performance

After three years of very strong share market returns the last six months has been an extremely volatile period for both the International and Australian share markets. The AUST(Q) Trustee has carefully monitored this volatility which is part of the normal economic cycle, and its impact on the Fund investment return.

Because of declines in share markets, AUSTQ was unable to credit any interest to members’ accounts for the six months ending 31 December 2007. However, the Fund does maintain an investment reserve that will be used to reduce the impact of the share market volatility for the remainder of the financial year.

AUST(Q) invests in a broad range of asset classes to help lower the overall risk and the long-term performance of the fund remains sound. Since its inception in 1985, AUST(Q) is one of a very small number of industry funds never to have declared a negative annual investment return to members*.
